SHIIP Information
Older Iowans Have Local Access to Medicare Information & Counseling
Jones Regional Medical Center and RSVP of Jones County are the official sponsors for the Senior Health Insurance Information Program (SHIIP), a service of the State of Iowa. RSVP volunteers provide free-of-charge counseling and information to people with questions about Medicare, Medicare supplement insurance, long term care insurance and claims filings. Appointments to meet with a SHIIP Counselor can be made by call 319-560-0811.
Volunteer counselors complete an extensive five-day training program provided by the State of Iowa Insurance Division. Volunteers meet individuals on an appointment basis. The SHIIP office is located in the Jones County Broadway Place Annex Building at 105 Broadway Place, Suite #12, Anamosa. This is up High Street past the Anamosa State Penitentiary south of the parking lot of the former location of Jones Regional Medical Center.
The State of Iowa created SHIIP in 1990 in response to the statewide need for senior health insurance information. SHIIP provides free informational materials as well as one-to-one assistance with Medicare coverage, Medicare supplement insurance, long-term care insurance, Medicare and insurance claims and other related issues. SHIIP does not recommend insurance companies, plans or agents. The volunteers, trained by the State of Iowa Insurance Division, answer questions and provide impartial information to help seniors make well-informed decisions.
If you are interested in becoming a SHIIP volunteer, or helping with this program, please contact Rachel Menard, RSVP Program Coordinator at 319-560-0811, or by e-mail at Rmenard@uweci.org.
